TownGlance.com provides aggregated and accessible data and statistics on every small, medium, and large community in the United States with a population of at least 2,500 (as of the 2018 American Community Survey), from military bases to unincorporated suburbs to rural towns to historic villages to major cities. TG includes place profiles for over 10,000 places with over 100 data points each .
This website is designed to be useful for everyone, but was created with younger adults in mind. Therefore it will be particularly useful for Millennial, Gen Z, and Gen X members looking for a new place to settle – whether as a newly graduated single, a married couple, or a young family with children.
Accordingly TownGlance.com Place Scores are calculated with this audience in mind. Metrics include: climate, employment opportunities, job compensation, transportation options, demographic diversity, cost-of-living, and cultural destinations weigh heavily in these scores, since they matter the most to members of this target audience. For more information on our data and custom scores, including how they area calculated please review our Ratings Guide page.
Notably, crime statistics (which are of uneven quality and not available for smaller jurisdictions) is excluded from our scores, as are school quality indicators. Research indicates that these two categories are of least importance to the target audience and can also unfairly mischaracterize and marginalize many wonderful American communities, particularly because they are so imprecise.
